Probation is a beach for Lindsay Lohan … who’s currently sunning herself in Hawaii — but only because her new probation officer signed off on the tropical vacation.
Lohan IS allowed to travel under the terms of her probation, but she’s not allowed to go anywhere without running the idea by her P.O. first — and this time, LiLo played by the rules.
Sources close to Lohan tell us … the probation officer was impressed by the fact Lohan is way ahead of schedule in her court-ordered stint in morgue duty and psychotherapy sessions … and found no reason to reject the trip.
We’re told Lohan wanted to get out of town to escape the spotlight for a few days … to prepare herself for the P.R. madness that will surround the release of her Playboy spread.
Lindsay Lohan can do her community service and her holiday shopping down at the coroner’s office … which has it’s own gift shop!! Let’s just hope inventory doesn’t get crossed up over there.

Lindsay Lohan has been released from jail — a mere 4.5 hours after she checked in.
As we first reported, Lindsay checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, CA last night at 8:48 PM PST to begin serving her 30-day jail sentence.
She was released at approximately 1:30AM. Tough life.

As TMZ previously reported, Lindsay is expected to be released within hours of her arrival due to jail overcrowding.
Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore has said LiLo might have to spend overnight behind bars … IF there are several other inmates checking out at the same time. LA traffic.
