Florida highway crash report details scary scene

ORLANDO, Fla (Reuters) – A new report on the Florida highway pileup on Sunday that killed 10 people describes a frightening scene of semi-trailer trucks driving into a cloud of smoke and fog, stopping in the road and being hit by the vehicles behind, killing some people inside. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report released on Monday, Interstate 75 already was already littered with collisions at about 4 a.m. Sunday when two semi-trailer trucks heading south drove into the smoke and fog. Both semis stopped, one in the center lane and the other in the outside lane. …

Occupy DC demonstrator packs up his camping gear at McPherson Square in WashingtonWASHINGTON (Reuters) – Defiant anti-Wall Street protesters in Washington vowed to dig in on Monday as a police midday deadline for them to remove their belongings from two camps within sight of the White House passed without incident. In its first challenge to the demonstrators, U.S. National Park Service said last week it would enforce a ban at noon against sleeping in McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza, where “Occupy” protesters have camped out since October. It ordered sleeping bags, pillows and other gear removed but said tents may remain as a protest symbol if flaps stayed open. …
